Nutrition Services (Population Health)
The goal of the nutrition services offered by the Population Health branch of Western Health is to provide nutrition expertise to support and enable people to adopt eating habits that will promote health and help prevent disease. Two Regional Nutritionists provide the nutrition services.
Programs/initiatives include:
- Consultation on nutrition for the staff of Western Health, other Health professionals, community groups/organizations and the general public.
- Promotion of prenatal nutrition, breastfeeding, infant feeding and nutrition for the youth population.
- Support of the nutrition component of the Healthy Baby Clubs in the region.
- Promotion of healthy eating/healthy weight for all age groups using a variety of strategies, e.g. presentations, workshops, lifestyle clinics, and work with the media, etc.
- Support for community-based food security initiatives such as community kitchens and school breakfast and lunch programs.
