Kids in the Community Kitchen (KICK)

KICK is a free 6-week after-school program that teaches children, grades 3–6 (ages 8-12) about food preparation, cooking skills, meal planning, Canada's Food Guide, and physical activity. Each session includes cooking foods, fun games and hands-on nutrition learning activities. This program is designed for anyone who is looking for a fun and interactive way to introduce children to healthy eating, cooking skills, and physical activity.  Parents, teachers, youth group leaders, and health care educators can use the Kids in the Community Kitchen Program Toolkit which includes easy-to-use and “kid-tested and approved” activities that aim to increase children’s knowledge, skills and self-confidence so that they can make healthier lifestyle choices. Each module includes step-by-step lesson plans, hands-on activities, and nutritious recipes.

The KICK program has been offered in many communities throughout the Western Region such as Cow Head, Burnt Islands and Port aux Basques.

Food and Fun Camp

The Food and Fun Camp is a free five-day camp that teaches children, grades 3–6 (ages 8-12) about food preparation, cooking skills, meal planning, Canada's Food Guide, and physical activity. Each session includes cooking foods, fun games and hands-on nutrition learning activities. This program offers a fun and interactive way to introduce children to healthy eating, cooking skills, and physical activity. Each session includes step-by-step lesson plans, hands-on activities, and nutritious recipes. The sessions are designed to be flexible, so you can choose to deliver one or more activities from each session.

The Food and Fun program has been offered in many communities throughout the Western Region such as Corner Brook, Cormack and Woody Point.
