The Special Assistance Program is designed to provide health services to financially eligible clients with chronic health conditions. Western Health funds and manages the program following provincial guidelines for:
The equipment portion of the program is currently the temporary responsibility of Eastern Health. This Board also manages the recycling depot.
Clients must reside within the boundaries of Western Health and must be assessed as financially eligible by financial assessors of the department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment or Western Health.
Health Care Supplies are forwarded to the Special Assistance Buyer. Supplies are provided by Eastern Health, St. John’s, Central Stores Department at The Health Sciences Center. The cost of delivery is included in the cost.
Oxygen requests are assessed by the buyer and a tendering process is presently followed for individual clients.
Orthotics requests must be accompanied by a physician diagnosis. Approval for the orthotics is based on a special benefits list.
Clients who have questions about accessing this program are asked to call their community health nurse at their local community health office of Western Health.
