Personal Care Homes provide care to adults needing residential assistance, Personal Care Homes try to meet the individual needs of those who are unable to live independently due to social circumstances, disabilities as a result of emotional or physical illness, injury, birth defect or aging.
Services Available to the Resident
• Supervision in a typical household environment twenty-four hours a day.
• Three nutritionally sound meals plus daily snacks.
• Domestic services (for example laundry assistance).
• Residents’ health status monitoring to ensure proper care is administered.
• Recreational activities.
To Apply for Admission to a Personal Care Home You Must:
• contact your local Western Health Office to have an assessment completed by a Community Health Nurse or Social Worker
• have a medical completed by a physician.
• have a financial assessment completed if you wish to live in a subsidized home and will require financial assistance.
How Applications are Approved
Once the above information is received and reviewed by the Regional Assessment and Placement committee you will be notified in writing whether or not your application was approved. If approved, and once there is a vacancy suitable to your choice, you will be offered placement.
General Information
Accommodations differ from home to home. Single, double, and multiple occupancy bedrooms are available, depending on the design of the home. Individuals must choose the home in which they wish to live. You and your family are encouraged to visit the home of your choice before you agree to admission. Residents are free to leave for visits with relatives and friends and, of course, family and friends can visit you.
