COVID Vaccination Available for Children Aged 5 to 11 Years

Nov 25, 2021

Western Health is advising that COVID vaccinations for children aged 5 to 11 years will begin as of November 27.

To ensure appointment availability for children aged 5 to 11, there will be no walk-in appointments for any COVID vaccine until further notice. COVID vaccination will continue to be available by appointment only for first and second doses of 12 years and older, and boosters for eligible populations (see who is eligible for boosters here).

To be fully vaccinated, children will require two doses of COVID vaccine, with a minimum of 8 weeks between doses. Children aged 5 to 11 must not have received any other vaccine in the two weeks prior to receiving the COVID vaccine (i.e., the flu shot or other vaccines).

Parents may choose to have their children vaccinated in a school setting or in a vaccine clinic. Parental consent is required for vaccination for children aged 5 to 11. Parents who wish to have their child vaccinated in school must complete the vaccine consent form and return it to the school in advance. Western Health will provide vaccines in schools in the Western region between December 6 and December 22. Dates of school vaccinations and other details will be communicated in advance through the school.

Appointments for clinics can be booked online here. Those unable to book online can schedule an appointment by calling 1-833-703-5470 toll free. The schedule for Western Health vaccine clinics (excluding schools) can be found here.

Western Health reminds the public to arrive for their appointment no earlier than ten minutes in advance, to bring their MCP card and to wear a short-sleeved shirt. Further instructions will be provided on site.
