Regional Health Authorities celebrate Canada Health Day - May 12, 2009

On May 12, 2009, Newfoundland and Labrador’s four Regional Health Authorities (RHA), Eastern Health, Western Health, Labrador-Grenfell Health and Central Health, will celebrate Canada Health Day by wearing blue ribbons. Blue is the common colour in the RHA logos and wearing the blue ribbons signifies that all employees working with the health authorities throughout the province are working hard to achieve the same vision – healthy people, healthy communities.

“Western Health is pleased to take this opportunity to show our support for Canada Health Day”, said Susan Gillam, Chief Executive Officer of Western Health. “This event helps us celebrate the importance of health and community services in our lives and our communities.”

Canada Health Day is sponsored by the Canadian Healthcare Association (CHA) and the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) who have worked in partnership to make this annual event a national celebration of health care in Canada.

“As Labrador-Grenfell Health recognizes Canada Health Day, I personally thank each of our employees for their continuing commitment and dedication to our vision of healthy people in healthy communities,” said Boyd Rowe, Chief Executive Officer, Labrador Grenfell Health.

For over 100 years, public health in Canada has helped individuals take care of themselves, their families and communities. The major advances in life expectancy, overall health and quality of life that occurred during the twentieth century were the result of public health initiatives – producing vaccines, clean water, pasteurization and better living conditions.

“Canada Health Day is an opportunity to celebrate the many accomplishments of our staff throughout the year,” said Karen McGrath, Chief Executive Officer, Central Health. “I want to extend my sincerest thank you to all of our staff. We all have different roles in our health and community services system and together we are working towards our vision – healthy people, healthy communities.”

“Eastern Health is proud to join with the other Regional Health Authorities in the province to celebrate Canada Health Day,” said Louise Jones, Interim President and CEO, Eastern Health. “On this day when we celebrate contributions of public health workers to the optimal health of Canadians, I would like to thank all Eastern Health staff, physicians and volunteers for your commitment to the health of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.”
