Western Health Celebrates Early Childhood Educators During Week, April 27 – May 3, 2008 - Apr 25, 2008

The week of April 27 – May 3, 2008 has been designated as Early Childhood Educators Week. Staff at Western Health would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge ECE’s who are committed to programs that enrich the lives of our children and help contribute to our vision of “healthy people, healthy communities.”
Quality child care and education is dependent on the commitment of the women and men who work as early childhood educators (ECE’s). ECE’s help create supportive environments that prepare our children for the many challenges life offers. In Western Newfoundland, many ECE’s work at 23 child care centres, 25 family child care homes and 38 family resource centres/satellite sites. In January 2008 in the Western region, there were a total of 144 children enrolled in family child care and 605 children enrolled in center based child care from the age of infancy to 12 years.

Early childhood educators are professional educators who care for our children during the most impressionable years of their lives. They receive training in a variety of topic areas such as child development, curriculum planning, creative activities, family studies, health, safety and wellness, communication and human relations. Their work and commitment to meet the developmental needs of our children builds a strong foundation for healthy families and communities.
