Western Health’s Flu Assessment Centre established at the former Regina High School will have a change in the hours of operation beginning on Monday, November 16th, 2009. The new hours of operation will be daily (Monday to Sunday) from 10 am to 10 pm.
Over the past week, the number of patients accessing the Flu Assessment Centre has been decreasing. However, the decrease is not significant enough to discontinue with the Flu Assessment Centre.
"We recognize that there are still patients presenting with Influenza like Illness who need to be seen at the Flu Assessment Centre", said Dr. Ken Jenkins, Vice President of Medical Services at Western Health. "We anticipate as more and more people become vaccinated that we will see less people needing care for influenza like illness."
Patients are reminded to sanitize their hands and put on a mask when arriving at the centre.
The Flu Assessment Centre at the former Regina High School has been put in place to support local physicians offices and clinics who are experiencing a significant increase in the number of patients needing to be seen with flu like symptoms.
The public is reminded that the H1N1 vaccination program is continuing next week in the Western Region for certain high risk groups. Further details on vaccination clinics are available by calling 1-877-632-H1N1 (4161) or on the Western Health website at www.westernhealth.nl.ca.
