Western Health will expand the priority groups to receive the H1N1 vaccine. For the clinics scheduled for November 4 to 6, H1N1 vaccination will be provided to the following priority groups:
- Children six months up to fifty-nine months of age (under the age of 5 years).
- School-aged children from kindergarten to grade three. Please Note: ALL children in kindergarten up to and including grade three students will be vaccinated in their schools on November 5 and 6. Parents are reminded to return consent forms to the school as soon as possible. A further schedule for school age children is forthcoming.
- People five years of age, up to and including 24 years of age, with chronic health conditions.
- Individuals between the ages of 25 and up to, but not including, 40 with chronic respiratory disease such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or cystic fibrosis. Eligibility will require proof of active treatment of the disease (for example, prescription, labeled medication, insurance forms, etcetera).
- All pregnant women in the region who are up to 20 weeks pregnant. The non-adjuvanted vaccine will be available by appointment and all women in this high risk group will be contacted by their Public Health Office by November 6. If anyone in this group does not receive a call please call 1-877-632-H1N1 (4161).
- All women over 20 weeks pregnant should have already received an appointment with their Public Health Nurse. If anyone in this group has not received a call please call 1-877-632-H1N1 (4161).
- Parents or other primary care givers (up to two per child) of children under the age of six months, and of immuno-compromised children and young adults (up to and including 24 years of age) who can not themselves be vaccinated.

In addition to the above priority groups, the following will receive the H1N1 vaccination:
- Hospital in-patients less than 65 years of age with one or more chronic health conditions.
- Individuals undergoing active cancer treatment (chemotherapy or radiation) and transplant patients (including pre-transplant patients on a wait list and directed by their physician to receive the vaccine and post transplant patients in the last two years). Individuals included in these priority groups are asked to please contact Western Health at 1-877-632-H1N1 (4161) to leave their contact information including name and number. Western Health will contact each individual to arrange for immunization.
Please be advised anyone who does not meet the priority groups criteria will be screened out.
If individuals who fit in the above priority groups are unable to be vaccinated due to limited supply of vaccine this week, they will be prioritized for vaccination following next week's vaccine shipment.
As part of the H1N1 immunization registration process, persons are required to have their MCP Card with them at the time of registration. People are asked to wear short sleeves or easy roll up sleeves.
All residents will have access to the H1N1 vaccine. Western Health will update the schedule as more information is available. The Provincial Government, working with the Regional Health Authorities, will monitor the mass immunization program as it rolls out and changes may be made to the existing plan.
