Blomidon Place

Blomidon Place is an interagency counselling service that provides mental health promotion, education and prevention services, consultation, coordination, assessment and counselling services to children, youth (under age 19 years) and their families.

This mental health service accepts self-referrals or referrals from other agencies. Referrals cover a wide range of issues such as stress, eating disorders, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorders, parenting, family of origin issues, pervasive developmental disorders, behavioral disorders, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, trauma, suicidal ideation, self-injury, and grief.

Blomidon Place serves the Corner Brook, Bay of Islands, and Pasadena area. This service was established in partnership with the Community Mental Health Initiative Inc. (CMHI) in 1996.

Blomidon Place offers FREE Group Sessions for Children, Youth, & Families.  
Call 634-4171 for more information or to refer/register. The following group sessions are offered: 

Parenting Information Sessions - Children  
This 3 session support/education program helps parents/caregivers build skills for parenting children age 2-12. Some of the following topics included in the sessions are: child development, temperament, parenting styles, overindulgence, self-care, preventative and corrective discipline.

Parenting Information Sessions - Adolescents  
This 3 session support/education program helps parents/caregivers build skills for parenting teenagers. Some of the following topics included in the sessions are: teenage development, temperament, communication skills, conflict resolution, preventative and corrective discipline.

Parenting Your Anxious Child Group (PYAC)
This 5-week group for parents/caregivers of children with problematic anxiety. This group aims to help parents manage their child’s anxiety and avoidance, as well as to help parents deal with their own anxiety, and improve family problem-solving.

Coping Power Group
This group runs for 25 or 34 weeks and is for children ages 8-14.. It focuses on fostering success at school and at home. Children learn key skills, including: goal setting, organization and study strategies, getting along with others, dealing with peer pressure, conflict resolution and problem solving, handling difficult feelings, like anger and frustration. Parents attend 12-16 virtual group sessions to learn important tools and ideas to help support their child in developing positive skills.

The Incredible Years
This group runs for 16 weeks and is for children ages 4-8 years. Children receive in-person training in small groups by therapists. They learn how to follow rules and cooperate, express emotions, problem-solve, manage anger, and make friends. Parents/caregivers join virtually with two trained facilitators. They are given opportunities to collectively and individually develop new strategies for managing their children and working together in collaborative partnerships.

DBT Skills Group:
This is a group where youth learn skills to decrease unhealthy coping strategies. Youth learn skills in four core areas of change and acceptance: Distress Tolerance, Mindfulness, Emotional Regulation & Interpersonal Effectiveness. This is a group with new members being accepted at the start of each mindfulness section.
